EXAMİNATİON OF CANOE ATHLETES' SPORTS PARTİCİPATİON MOTİVATİONS

The purpose of this study is to examine the sports participation motivations of canoe athletes. The research group consists of a total of 218 active athletes, 73 women and 145 men, who do canoeing under the Turkish Canoe Federation in 2022-2023. In this study, a survey method consisting of personal information and motivations for participation in sports was used. The data obtained; Frequency and percentage information for personal information, gender and education level variables were examined with Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Mann-Whitney-U test, and the relationship between all categorical variables was examined with chi-square analysis. The results obtained are presented in tables in the findings section. In comparing the sports participation motivations of canoe athletes according to their education level, in the Physical Fitness/Energy Expenditure sub-dimension; A significant difference was found between athletes with secondary school education level and high school education level in favor of athletes with secondary school education level (X2=14.856; p=0.005<0.05). In the friend sub-dimension; A significant difference was found between athletes with secondary school education level and high school education level in favor of athletes with high school education level (X2=12.036; p=0.017<0.05)In the motivation to participate in sports; Female athletes' "Success/Status" and "Fun" sub-dimensions, male athletes' "Physical fitness/Energy expenditure", "Team membership/Spirit", "Friends", "Competition", "Skill development" and "Movement/Being Active" sub-dimensions. It seems that the sub-dimensions are more important in motivating sports. At the education level; At the secondary school level, the feeling of "Physical fitness/Energy expenditure" came to the fore, and in the high school period, the feeling of "Friend", the motivation and motivation to participate in canoeing came to the fore
