COMPARİSON OF IMAGERY LEVELS OF AMATEUR AND PROFESSİONAL ATHLETES

The aim of this study is to compare the imagery levels of amateur and professional athletes in sports. The population of the study consists of athletes aged 18 and over in Izmir province. The sample group consists of a total of 300 athletes, 162 amateur athletes and 138 professional athletes. Imagery in Sport Inventory and Personal Information Form were used as data collection tools. Independent Sample T-Test was used to compare the variables. Results: There is no significant difference in Cognitive Imagery, Motivational Imagery, Motivational General Arousal, Motivational General Mastery in the comparison of imagery levels of amateur and professional athletes (p>0,05). There is a significant difference between athletes with a sport history of 7 years or less and 8 years or more in the sub-dimensions of Cognitive Imagery in Amateur Athletes, Motivational Imagery in Amateur Athletes (p<0,05). There is no significant difference between Individual Sports and Team Sports in the sub-dimensions of Motivational General Mastery in Amateur Athletes, Cognitive Imagery in Professional Athletes, Motivational Imagery in Professional Athletes, Motivational General Mastery in Professional Athletes (p>0,05). There is no significant difference in the sub-dimensions of Motivational Imagery in Amateur Athletes, Motivational General Mastery in Amateur Athletes, Cognitive Imagery in Professional Athletes, Motivational Imagery in Professional Athletes, Motivational General Arousal in Professional Athletes, Motivational General Mastery in Professional Athletes (p>0,05). As a result, there is a partial similarity between the results obtained in this study and the results of the studies in the literature. It is recommended that more scientific studies should be carried out in order to develop and examine the imagery levels of athletes.
