INVESTİGATİON OF SPORT PARTİCİPATİON MOTİVATİON OF INDİVİDUALS WİTH SPECİAL NEEDS

Abstract

Special need is a situation that negatively affects the competencies and skills that would be considered normal in terms of healthy life in the organism, their daily life skills compared to their peers and limits their roles in society. Increasing the integration of individuals with special needs into their environment and accelerating the process in this context; therefore, sport is a good means to benefit their physical, psychological and social health. In this study, it is aimed to examine the motivation of licensed athletes with special needs to participate in sports. In this context, in the study, the scales within the scope of casual screening research, one of the quantitative research methods, were filled face-to-face with individuals. 100 licensed athletes of 2021 residing in Çankırı, Giresun, Ordu and Samsun provinces participated in the study. In the research, the personal information form prepared by the researchers and the Motivation Scale for Sport Participation of Disabilities (MSSPPD) were used as data collection tools. Frequency discovery, t-test and one-way variance (ANOVA) tests were used in the analysis of the data obtained in the study. No significant difference was found between the demographic information and the total scores of motivation and sub-dimension of motivation discussed in the study.  As a result, although the special needs in question show differences in the limitations of individuals, it was concluded that the motivation of individuals with special needs to participate in sports is at a similar level.
