INVESTIGATION OF THE PERCEPTION OF INDIVIDUAL AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY OF STUDENTS OF THE FACULTY OF SPORTS SCIENCES IN RELATION TO GENDER AND DEPARTMENTAL VARIABLES

It can be considered a healthy functioning for future generations when institutions and individuals act together in the spirit of the established goals. In this context, the aim of the study is to evaluate the level of individual and social responsibility of the students of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, which are priorities in social life, while contributing to the literature. 487 students of the Faculty of Sports Science from 3 different universities participated in the study. In the study, the Individual and Social Responsibility Scale" by Li et al. developed by Filiz and Demirhan (2008) and adapted into Turkish by Filiz and Demirhan (2016) was used as the data collection instrument. The SPSS 28 program was used for the study. After testing that the data were normally distributed, the t-test was applied for independent groups for pairwise group comparison and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) for more than two groups. For multiple comparisons, the Games-Howell test was used for data that did not have a homogeneous distribution. Looking at participants' mean scores on the individual and social responsibility scale items, the highest mean score was for the item "I respect my program leaders (teachers)" at 5.40±1.074 and the lowest mean score was for the item "I participate in all activities" at 4.04±1.332. No significant difference was found when comparing levels of individual and social responsibility by gender (p > 0.05). Looking at the mean scores, the mean of male participants was 5.01±0.85, and the mean of female participants was 5.07±0.89. Looking at the level of individual and social responsibility by age category, there was a significant difference between the age group 18-20 years (A) and the age group 27 years and older (D) in terms of the level of individual and social responsibility. The age group 27 and older has a higher level of individual and social responsibility than the age group 18-20. Consequently, students' perception of individual and social responsibility affects their participation in future internships. In addition, community service courses and individual and social responsibility projects conducted under different names at universities can raise awareness. In this sense, comprehensive and detailed studies can be considered to benefit society and individuals.
