Abstract

The aim of this study is to develop a measurement tool that can determine student attitudes about the distance education method (online and simultaneous) put into practice after the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquake that occurred on February 6, 2023, and to determine the attitudes of students towards distance education with the help of this scale. Questions 1, 5, 6, and 12 in the scale were asked in reverse. The pre-test and retest study group consists of 50 students from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa (IUC) Sports Sciences Faculty (SSF). Cronbach's Alpha coefficient was calculated for the internal consistency, that is, reliability, of the scale, face validity was applied for factor analysis, and KMO values were calculated. The pre-test of the scale was calculated as internal consistency reliability, Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of 0,76 and KMO value of 0,72. The internal consistency reliability Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of the scale was 0,78 and the KMO value was 0,75 in the retest results of the scale, which was performed 15 days later. As a result of the analyzes made, while there is a belief that the participants want the distance education application to be applied for theoretical courses, they do not want it to be applied for applied courses, that the condition of attending the courses during the application should be sought, they support the application of this method not only in compulsory cases but also in the normal period, and that there may be positive changes in their relations with their families in this period. They do not believe that there will be positive changes in their relationships with their schoolmates. However, while it is stated that he can spare more time for himself in this period, he does not want the exams of the theoretical courses in this semester to be held online, while the exams of the applied courses are requested to be made face-to-face. While their attitudes towards being more successful in theoretical courses during the distance education period were found to be high, their attitudes towards being more successful in applied courses were found to be low. As a result, it can be said that the opinion of IUC SSF students that distance education method will always be more effective than face-to-face education is high.
