Abstract

Individual sports are the types of sports that people do without being tied to a team. Individual sports include athletics, cycling, horse riding, bowling, swimming, and tennis. Individual athletes make up 83% of the total licensed athletes affiliated with sports federations in Ağrı. Sports branches with the highest number of licensed athletes among all branches are athletics (15.17%), volleyball (9.37%), chess (8.42%), table tennis (7.04%), skiing (5.92%). ) and badminton (5.58%). In this study, it is aimed to reveal the individual sports tendencies of the young people in the Eastern Anatolia Region and the factors that are effective in starting individual sports in the example of Ağrı province. In this study, in the example of Ağrı province it is aimed to present the tendencies of the young people doing the individual sports in the Eastern Anatolia Region and the factors that are effective on their beginning individual sports. The terrain structure in the region, climatic conditions and sports complexes have a very important role in their preference of individual sports branches. The inadequacy of the sports complexes in the region, the greater satisfaction with the success obtained from individual sports, the financial opportunities provided to young athletes cause to the preference of individual sports branches, especially athletics. In terms of training successful athletes it is very important for the sports complexes especially located in the eastern provinces to reach a level as number and content in order to meet the potential of the region and to entrust the talented athletes, who are determined by scanning the districts and villages one by one to expert trainers in their field.
