Abstract

When the Olympic Games are evaluated from the perspective of the Olympics today, the Paralympic Games are a complementary element of the Olympic spirit. The Paralympic Games have become an area where countries are represented with more numbers, branches and athletes in each organization compared to the previous games. This research is to examine the success status of the Summer Paralympic Games where Turkey won medals, and for this purpose, the 2004 Athens, 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, 2016 Rio and Tokyo 2020 were examined. The data used in the research were taken from the websites of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the Turkish National Paralympic Committee, and the One Sample T-test was used to determine Turkey's success status among the countries participating in the Summer Paralympic Games. The statistical analysis of the research was done using the SPSS 27.0 package program. Again, in this study, if it is less than (p<0.05), it is assumed that Turkey has a significant difference in the number of medals won among the countries participating in the Summer Paralympic Games, and if it has a value greater than (p>0.05), it is assumed that there is no significant difference. As a result of the research; It was determined that the Paralympic Games in which Turkey participated with the highest number of athletes and was the most successful with a total of 15 medals (p= ,229) were the '2020 Tokyo' Paralympic Games. When examined in general, although there was a partial increase in the number of athletes participating in the games over the years, it was concluded that Turkey achieved a success below the general medal average on a country basis in the Paralympic Games it participated in before the Tokyo Olympics.
