Abstract

In contemporary society, factors such as the intensity of working life and urbanisation have pushed people away from the monotony of life and pushed them to search. For these reasons, people started to explore. People resort to sports such as swimming, cycling, running, walking, hiking, climbing, mountaineering, rowing, aerobic and muscle strengthening exercises, and benefit from technological developments that make life easier by eliminating the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle. Exercise is considered a subcategory of physical activity, which is a series of planned, systematic, voluntary and continuous activities aimed at improving one or more elements of physical fitness. It should not be overlooked that the frequency of exercise cannot be determined to hold the key to a long and healthy life and that overdoing it can be harmful to the human body. Considering the negative effects of exercise on humans, exercise addiction is one of the most important phenomena. In general, regular exercise at a certain frequency is recognised as a healthy and beneficial habit. However, it is accepted that people who exercise regularly at a certain frequency may become obsessed with exercise over time and such an attitude may lead to harmful behaviours for the individual. Although the benefits of exercise are widely recognised, in recent years a growing body of research has shown that a minority of people experience a range of negative effects from excessive exercise. The aim of this study was to investigate athletes' exercise addictions in a general and conceptual framework. In this context, the content of the concepts of athletes, exercise and exercise addictions was tried to be compiled. Information was gathered through a combination of literature reviews and information from websites.
